Auburn School Committee appoints Robert Scaza as superintendent

The Auburn School Committee voted on Dec. 17 to appoint Robert Scaza as the district’s next superintendent, with the appointment effective July 1, 2026, pending contract negotiations. The committee chair and members recorded an affirmative vote to confirm the candidate.

The committee chair said the board had made “a lot of progress” on the superintendent search and thanked all applicants. Meg (Speaker 4), who moved the appointment, told colleagues the search committee had brought 21 applicants to three finalists after six interviews and extensive stakeholder engagement, including student and staff focus groups. The chair said the committee looks forward to working with Dr. Robert Scaza and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the district forward.

Committee members also publicly thanked the search committee for its work; Meg read the names of participants and noted that feedback from school focus groups informed the final decision. The appointment action was described in the meeting as subject to negotiation of a final contract before the July 1 start date.
