Council considers expanding Police Accountability Board ride-alongs to all county law enforcement

Councilmembers reviewed Bill 10-26, a sponsor-led change to the Police Accountability Board (PAB) training requirement that would allow PAB members to complete their annual ride-along with any county law-enforcement agency rather than only with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Ethan Hunt said the change was requested by the PAB to reflect that the board’s jurisdiction covers multiple law-enforcement agencies in the county, including the Sheriff, Crofton Police and Annapolis Police. The administration noted that the PAB previously had an extensive set of training requirements under the Maryland Police Accountability Act and that this is an operational clarification that allows PAB members to better understand the agencies they oversee.
No vote occurred at the work session; staff offered to answer questions at public hearing.
