Greenwood commission backs alcohol-permit recommendation for proposed wine bar at 220 West Main

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission on Feb. 1 unanimously approved a recommendation that the mayor forward an alcohol-permit application for a proposed boutique wine bar at 220 West Main Street to the state Alcohol Beverage Commission.

Applicant Jordan Humbert, who said she moved to Greenwood in 2023 and has 11 years of human-resources experience, told the commission she plans a wine-focused venue that emphasizes education and community activities rather than a conventional bar. "I want to teach others to appreciate wine like I appreciate wine," Humbert said, describing weekly education classes, book clubs and special events intended to bring neighborhoods together.

A staff member reminded the commission that it must determine whether the proposed project would provide an economic benefit to the Riverfront District and whether the site should be considered an eligible permit premises under IC 7-1-3-20-16D. The recommended motion —that the commission find the site eligible and direct the mayor to communicate that recommendation to the Alcohol Beverage Commission—was moved and seconded and approved in a roll-call vote.

Commissioners complimented the application’s thoroughness and encouraged the applicant to engage neighborhood groups. The commission’s action was a recommendation to the mayor and state authority; any final licensing decision rests with the Alcohol Beverage Commission.

The commission recorded the approval as unanimous; the applicant’s request was therefore forwarded as recommended.
