Summary
Jesus Rivas introduced 220.org (branded '22 0') and described a free traumatic-healing coaching program for veterans, first responders and families; organizers announced an April 18 event, a March 28 awareness course, and a May 23 run, and described symbolic elements intended to honor veterans lost to suicide.
Jesus Rivas told the committee that 220.org—presented as '22 0'—is establishing a Texas hub that offers a no-cost traumatic-healing process for veterans, law enforcement, first responders and family members.
“22 0 is a national organization,” Rivas said, describing a program he said is free to clients, does not bill insurance and does not share client information with the VA. He said the program pairs clients with volunteer coaches and offers follow-up emotional-healing sessions.
Rivas and other organizers outlined three local events tied to suicide-prevention awareness: a March 28 community event (Laredo Murfica/Trail of Hope course), an April 18 event hosted at a Harley-Davidson venue, and a May 23 run before Memorial Day. Organizers said registration will be available on Eventbrite and that the events are free; they also said some activities are symbolic, such as carrying a sandbag marked '17' and completing 17 squats to remember veterans who die by suicide.
Randy and other speakers emphasized community and fundraising elements: veteran organizations will be invited to set up fundraising booths so donations may go directly to those organizations. Organizers asked the committee to help with outreach and to consider including the City of Laredo liability waiver in registration materials.
No committee action was taken on funding or formal partnerships during the meeting; organizers said they will return with registration links and event materials.
