WELD COUNTY — The Weld County Board of County Commissioners approved on first reading amendments to county code (Code Ordinance 20-26-003) that update administration of emergency management.
Roy Rudacille of the Emergency Management Office presented the proposed changes, which staff said were developed following a 2019 update and a work session in October. Key additions include adding 'epidemic' and 'pandemic' to definitions, documenting delegation of authority that names the emergency management director as the director of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, specifying the collection and handling of Tier II hazardous-chemical reports, and codifying the county's designated emergency-response authority. The amendments also clarify emergency purchasing procedures and administrative updates derived from past flood response experience.
Rudacille said the code changes bring prior informal or MOU-based practices into formal ordinance language. The board opened a public hearing and received no public comment. Commissioner Jason Maxey moved to approve on first reading; Commissioner Lynette Pevler seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Staff said these updates are intended to align code with current practices and statutory requirements and to make roles and responsibilities explicit in the county code.
