Greeley resident urges Weld County commissioners to increase homeless services, invites them to memorial event

During the public-comment period at the Jan. 14 Weld County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Steve Keats of Greeley described seeing a person experiencing homelessness who appeared ill and urged more services for people living on the street.
"It was very sad," Keats said, describing a person he encountered downtown who appeared to have a severe cold or pneumonia and who he believed was homeless. Keats said he approached the nearby fire department and hoped they checked on the individual. He told commissioners the homeless situation in the area is "getting worse and worse" and said that available services "don't meet the needs."
Keats identified himself as a member of a Memorial Homeless Committee and invited commissioners to a memorial event on Feb. 19 at Lincoln Park, noting he would distribute flyers when available. He also asked about an item on a past agenda — an annual determination from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs' Division of Property Taxation dated June 27, 2025 — and the chair offered to look up the communication and follow up after the meeting.
The chair closed public comment and adjourned the meeting.
