Weld County adopts ordinance defining EV charging stations as allowed use in commercial, industrial and agricultural zones

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 22 adopted Code Ordinance 2025‑16 to define electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and designate them as an allowed use in commercial, industrial and agricultural zoning.
Jim Fletcher, planning staff, told commissioners the ordinance "would define EV charging stations and list them as an allowed use in the commercial, industrial and agricultural" districts and that the change "does not affect home EV charging." Fletcher said staff had no changes to propose on third reading and recommended approval.
Commissioner Scott James moved approval on final reading; the motion was seconded and the board approved the ordinance by voice vote. No members of the public spoke during the public‑hearing portion of the item.
County officials said the ordinance is intended to clarify where standalone EV charging facilities may be sited. The ordinance was presented as a zoning text amendment to Chapter 23 of the Weld County Code; planning staff did not propose residential restrictions or regulatory changes to private home chargers.
The board adopted the ordinance on final reading; there were no public comments recorded during the final hearing. The ordinance will be codified as Code Ordinance 2025‑16 in the Weld County Code.
