At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Kiwanis Regional Trail Authority heard a maintenance update describing recent bridge-deck repairs and a near-miss involving a Bobcat used for snow removal.
Jason, a maintenance staff member, said crews repaired a couple of boards on a smaller walking bridge at Trestle Park after they gave way beneath a Bobcat’s rear tires while an operator was cleaning snow. "A couple of the boards gave way and the back tires sunk down through," Jason said, adding there were no injuries and no damage to equipment beyond the broken boards.
Jason said the city will use lighter equipment on narrow bridges going forward. "So that is what, we're gonna go with those bridges from now on," he said, referring to a grass‑type mower with a broom attachment that has a smaller footprint than the Bobcat.
He also reported ongoing work at Bent Oak Crossing, replacing deck boards with locally available standard lumber and outsourcing custom pieces for larger bridges. Board members emphasized the safety importance of maintaining trail infrastructure and thanked maintenance crews for their work.
