Planning commission sends four items to council for consideration, including Kmart reuse and MacArthur Memorial waiver

A second application by Monument Companies would adaptively reuse an industrial lumber site on West 22nd Street into multifamily housing, apply the Norfolk & Western Historic Overlay District and pursue historic tax credits for renovation. The Planning Commission recommended approval 5–0 and the Architectural Review Board recommended approval.
The third item updates Selden Market’s special exception to a conditional use permit to reflect current operations. The presentation said the applicant requests hours from 6 a.m. to midnight daily, with 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, on-premise alcohol sales and live entertainment. The Planning Commission recommended approval 5–0 but limited hours to midnight except on New Year’s Eve.
The final item is a development certificate and waiver request to permit a setback deviation for an addition to the Jean MacArthur Research and Education Center adjacent to the MacArthur Memorial. The presenter said the memorial is owned by the city and the proposed addition would be owned by the foundation; the Planning Commission recommended approval 5–0 and the ARB recommended approval 6–0 with two abstentions.
