Floyd County supervisors approve series of resolutions and contracts; public hearing set for credit-card fees

Floyd County's Board of Supervisors concluded several formal actions during its meeting, approving resolutions and contracts and authorizing a public hearing on proposed credit-card processing fees.

The board voted to extend the term of the Floyd County Public Service Authority and authorized staff signatures for implementation. The board also voted to terminate the local declaration of emergency tied to a recent winter storm; a motion to end the emergency was seconded and approved.

Members debated a resolution concerning House Bill 1374, which was discussed in the context of changes to governing boards at state universities. Vice Chairman Booth said the board should resist what he described as partisan turnover of boards and moved to approve the county's resolution; Mister Cox recorded a dissenting vote. The motion passed with multiple recorded yes votes and at least one no.

The board approved an award for a $64,000 elevator repair to Ultimate Construction Services (see separate article). It also approved revised paving plans for the Jesse Peterman Library parking lot (see separate article).

On finance, the board authorized staff to advertise a public hearing on a proposed credit-card service fee (staff presented a 2% service-fee proposal and vendor options). The hearing will allow public comment before any fee is imposed.
