Committee nominates Cody Love for fish-and-game commission, approves memorial-brick agreement and appoints James Walker to tourism commission

The DeSoto Parish Administrative Committee nominated Cody Love to fill one of two vacancies on the Bayou Pier Fish and Game Commission and agreed to forward nominations to the full police jury for final vote. Cody Love introduced himself, said he has lived in DeSoto Parish for 41 years, that he revived the local Ducks Unlimited chapter three years ago and works at an ARC in Arcadia (Armstead in the transcript), and described his conservation background.

Separately, the committee authorized the president to sign a corporate-of-endeavor agreement with the Mansfield Civic Group to use a portion of the public walkway as a memorial brick area; the civic group will establish and maintain the bricks. Mary Green of the Mansfield Civic Group told the committee the group dates back decades, was incorporated in 2011, plans to start with 400 bricks with capacity for up to 3,000 over time, and that funding comes from grants and other organizations as well as donations. Committee members asked about maintenance and membership; Green said the group partners with the tourist bureau and has handled upkeep without relying on police-jury donations.

The committee also moved and seconded to appoint James Walker to replace Mary Mack Thompson on the DeSoto Parish Tourism Commission for a three-year term. Walker described his role as president of the Logansport Chamber of Commerce and his local volunteer history. Motions regarding these items were recorded and the committee proceeded to forward or approve them as transcribed.
