The DeSoto Parish Administrative Committee voted to adopt Ordinance 7 of 2025, which creates new precincts by division and merges precinct geography, amends certain precinct legal descriptions and assigns polling locations in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes 18-5-32 and 18-5-32.1.
Amanda Raines, the registrar of voters, told the committee the proposed ordinance has been submitted to the Louisiana Secretary of State for preapproval and the state has not yet given final approval. Raines said the Secretary of State will check that district lines comply with state law and that, if the state requires changes, the ordinance would be revised. She noted that anyone whose precinct or polling location changes will receive a new voter card automatically once the change is finalized.
Committee members also discussed a technical correction to an attachment: an initial draft had assigned a precinct to the wrong police jury districts; the error was corrected before the committee vote. The committee voted to adopt the ordinance at the administrative meeting; Raines said the vote will be followed by a public hearing and other procedural steps at the regular meeting once state preapproval is complete.
