Residents, chamber and council highlight community programs, warming center and upcoming events

Councilman Phil Feuchler announced the grand opening of the city’s new Fire Station No. 7 at Burke and Crenshaw (1600 Crenshaw Road) scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m., and encouraged residents to attend. Council members and staff repeatedly urged residents to take precautions during the incoming Arctic cold front and noted available warming resources; Councilman Heredian said the East Harris County activity center will serve as a warming center approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the cold spell.
Renee Gonzalez, CEO and founder of Wellness on Wheels, described a nature-therapy outdoor cycling program that served about 100 community members during a recent holiday ride. Gonzalez thanked Pasadena Police Department officers Perez, Aufita and Salinas for escorting participants, said safety was the program’s top priority and offered a plaque for Chief Jackson. "Safety is number one for our families and our individuals that are riding with us," Gonzalez said.
Christina Womack representing the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce said the Chamber will livestream and film the upcoming Congressional District 9 candidate forum on Jan. 27 at Texas Chiropractic College and announced Pasadena was selected to host a regional small-business summit in June in partnership with the governor’s economic development office. Womack encouraged small businesses to use Chamber resources and highlighted Pasadena Loves Local as a directory of vetted local vendors.
