Commissioner Scott James was elected chair of the Weld County Board of Commissioners on Monday morning, succeeding Commissioner Perry Buck.
The election, moved by Commissioner Kevin Ross and seconded by Commissioner Jason Maxey, passed by voice vote. After the vote, Commissioner Scott James thanked his predecessor: "Thank you for your vote of confidence and... thank Commissioner Buck for her year of service as the chair. You did an outstanding job, and I thank you," he said.
The board also selected Jason Maxey as chair pro tem (vice chair) for 2026 on a motion by Commissioner Buck and confirmed assignments of commissioners to coordinate county departments for the year. Those personnel and coordination assignments were approved unanimously.
The actions were procedural and set leadership and oversight roles for the board for the coming year. The board convened with five commissioners present and proceeded to routine business and appointments after the leadership votes.
