Commissioners honor University Bulldogs’ state title and recognize two long‑time DHS employees

At the start of the Dec. 8 session the Board of Weld County Commissioners read a proclamation recognizing the University Bulldogs girls volleyball team’s Class 4A state championship and invited players and coaches to the podium.
Commissioner Scott James read the proclamation noting set scores and the team’s season sweep of Windsor; multiple student‑athletes and the coach described the season, teamwork and community support. Commissioners traded congratulatory remarks and recognized the community and parental support behind the team.
The board also presented certificates of achievement to two long‑time Department of Human Services employees. The first certificate honored Leslie Cobb for service beginning in 1992 and extending to a retirement date listed as 01/06/2026; Jamie Ulrich and Tammy Grant described Cobb’s work in contracts, child welfare and cross‑department collaboration. The second recognition honored Susan (Sue) Bjortland for her service (12 years as an employee, additional contract service prior) and her role in mentoring, program implementation and process improvements. Commissioners offered personal remarks and thanks.
The recognitions were ceremonial and the commissioners posed for photos with honorees on the record.
No formal board action beyond the ceremonial recognitions was required for these items.
