The proclamation noted Billboard coverage and that Ellis’ single “Grassy Cove” reached No. 1 on the bluegrass charts; another single, “Get Lost,” debuted at No. 5. The proclamation credited his apprenticeship, scholarships and local mentorships in the county’s bluegrass tradition.
Ellis accepted the recognition and told the commission, “Thank you all so much. This means so much.” He also said he recorded mandolin parts for Bobby Osborne’s final album and will open for Marty Stuart on a multi‑night engagement. Commissioners applauded and the assembly gave him a standing ovation.
The recognition was ceremonial and did not require or prompt any county action.
