Stewart County Chamber seeks volunteers, promotes vendor day, Christmas parade and banquet

Peggy, speaking for the Stewart County Chamber of Commerce, used the meeting to make several member-facing announcements and to solicit volunteers and sponsors for fall and winter activities.
She outlined a vendor event set for "Tuesday the 20th," with vendor tables priced at $10, setup after 8 a.m. and the visitor center open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the chamber said boat guests are expected to arrive between about 1:30 and 2 p.m. The chamber asked businesses to email event information so staff can promote members' activities on the Chamber Facebook page.
The chamber also opened registration and promotion for seasonal activities: Christmas ornaments featuring the Sykes Museum ($10 each), a scarecrow-contest application deadline of October 5 with judging Oct. 21–25, and a Christmas parade scheduled for December 7. Peggy asked members to consider committee service and to prepare for board nominations in March, elections in April and seating of new officers in May.
She reminded members the Annual Chamber Banquet will be October 17 at the Visitor Center and requested sponsors and silent-auction items. "This is your chamber and your chamber needs each of you," Peggy said, calling for renewed participation from businesses and residents.
The meeting included a broad brainstorming session about festivals and youth activities — including ideas for a fall festival, Halloween parade, fishing contests and reviving quilt shows — and speakers discussed ways to draw visitors while keeping event revenue in Stewart County. Attendees suggested staging youth-focused events (movie nights, trunk-or-treats, school-based activities) and using local venues such as the high school or visitor center to reduce permitting and insurance burdens.
No formal votes were taken; the chamber will post follow-up information on its Facebook page and expects to reconvene in November.
