Chesterfield County Council weighs expanded early voting sites, considers transit outreach

Administrator Mr. Eubanks said voter-registration staff asked the county to consider opening early-voting sites in Paisley, McBee and Sherrill in addition to the main Chesterfield office. "If we choose to put units in Paisley, McBee and Sherrill, it's gonna cost the county an additional $18,000," he said, and noted absentee ballots can be requested through Oct. 23.
Councilmembers questioned whether the state would reimburse some costs. "The state will reimburse," Mr. Eubanks said, adding the county must keep any site it designates open for the full 12 days required by state rules if it elects to open mobile or satellite locations.
Council members also discussed transportation to polling sites. Miss Ham said she spoke with Don Strickland of the Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA), who "said that they'd be more than happy to put something together for us and provide that transportation opportunity," citing fixed routes and demand-response service that could be publicized during voting season.
Members asked staff to develop a coordinated public-information campaign — including social media and local news — to advertise early-voting options, absentee-request deadlines and available transportation. Miss Burns was identified as the staff lead for the outreach effort; council recorded a consensus to keep the main Chesterfield office open for early voting and to explore additional sites and transit coordination. No formal motion or vote on opening the additional sites appears in the transcript.
