Lafayette Police welcome three new officers including a dedicated youth‑services officer

Lafayette, Calif. — The Lafayette Police Department on Tuesday introduced two newly hired officers and announced the return of a Youth Services Officer (YSO) position after about a decade.
Chief Williams presented Officer Breuther (hired in January) and Officer Daniel Harper and described their prior service with Contra Costa County agencies, field‑training experience and community policing goals. Tanner Blank was introduced as the department’s YSO — a position intended to enhance outreach to schools, provide mentorship, improve campus security and support juvenile investigations.
Chief Williams said both Breuther and Harper serve as field‑training officers and that Harper brings small‑unmanned aerial systems (drone) experience and academy‑level instruction credentials. The department highlighted Detective Michael Pullum (investigations) and Detective Poland (investigative record, commendations) in recognizing recent investigative successes.
Council members thanked officers and emphasized appreciation for the department’s community work. No policy actions or budget changes were taken at the meeting; council remarks expressed support for the department’s staffing direction.
