Cowlitz County issues calls for public-works bids including chip-seal materials and Tower Road bridge work

Cowlitz County's Board of Commissioners advanced multiple public-works procurement items as part of a consent agenda, including calls for bids and contract awards that affect road maintenance and infrastructure projects.

The presiding officer listed a call for bids for “just under 13,000 tons” of aggregate used in the county's chip-seal program; the board noted last year’s spending was about $432,000 and estimated spending this year at roughly $450,000. Staff said the call for bids is scheduled for March 2, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. The board also authorized a call for bids for road servicing materials covering May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027, with the same bid opening date and time.

A larger project — the Tower Road/Bridal Rock Creek work — was scheduled for a March 9, 2026 bid opening; staff provided an engineer’s estimate of about $2,850,000 and said most of that funding is expected to come from federal sources with some ARPA dollars.

The consent agenda also included administrative contract items: a reimbursement of $97,750 awarded through an agreement with the Washington Association of Counties for an energy audit at the Hall of Justice, and a purchase award to Ironclad Company for disposable polypropylene gutter brooms and related equipment at $41,931.88.

What this means: the bid notices set the procurement calendar and signal the county’s near-term road and bridge work priorities. The board approved the consent agenda by motion; specific vendor awards will be finalized after bid openings and standard procurement review.
