Select Board OKs up to $3,300 for police sally port door and remotes

The Brentwood Select Board voted to authorize up to $3,300 from the building maintenance revolving account to replace the police station sally port door and install new openers.
The Police Chief described safety and operational issues: the existing opener works only from inside, the bottom of the door is rusted, and vehicle antennas can catch on the mechanism. The Chief said he obtained a quote from the local firm (FIMBLE/Fimble Garage Door) for a new door, rail system, and eight openers; "the total price would be $3,285.77," he reported.
Board members discussed where items currently stored in the sally port would be relocated and directed the department to clear and reorganize the space for secure prisoner movement. A motion to approve a purchase not to exceed $3,300 was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The project will be funded from the building maintenance revolving account, and staff said they will remove unneeded items from the sally port and make the area secure for prisoner intake and officer safety.
