Town officials explained the recommendation reflected administrative realities and the low number of true nonresident bookings; many outside organizations had been using resident renters to avoid higher event fees. Staff said the larger special-event permit process (required for events over about 50 people) triggers additional insurance and oversight requirements, and the higher fee helps cover personnel and supervision costs for large events.
The board approved an amendment moving nonresident rentals to the $600 tier and confirmed a separate $600 fee for businesses and 501(c)(3) organizations when combined with a special-event permit. After the amendment passed, the resolution (as amended) was carried on a vote.
