The Tooele Board of Education recognized winners of its seventh annual district digital citizenship poster contest, highlighting student-designed messages about responsible online behavior and teachers’ role in promoting digital citizenship across classrooms.
The Tooele Board of Education recognized student winners of the district’s seventh annual digital citizenship poster contest during its Feb. 10 meeting. Esther Barney, who leads the district contest, said the theme this year was “Navigate the digital universe,” and that students used the theme to illustrate responsible online behavior.
Fourth- through sixth-grade winners included Kingsley Royce (digital design) and Keeley Ritz (hand-drawn). Barney said the contest is intended to move students from being "passive consumers of technology to advocates for a positive digital world," and she thanked teachers for integrating digital citizenship into classroom practice.
The board applauded the students and teachers and noted the posters will be used as year-round classroom reminders. The recognition was presented before the public comment portion of the agenda; no board action was taken on the contest itself.
