Senate Finance on Monday heard introductions from five nominees to the state advisory committee that advises the Office of the State Auditor on governmental accounting.
Bill Bridal, city controller for the City and County of Denver, David Reynolds, finance director for Summit County, Jane Frederick, a controller for St. Vrain Valley Schools, and Anne Penny, deputy director of finance for the Town of Erie (reappointment), each described their accounting and auditing experience and said they are willing to serve on the advisory committee. Crystal Dorsey of the Office of the State Auditor attended to answer questions and explained the committee’s role in advising the auditor on accounting matters across levels of government.
The nominees described responsibilities that include reviewing how the state applies single-audit thresholds and other accounting standards and advising on consistent approaches for local governments. Anne Penny cited a recent federal change to the single-audit threshold as an example of the committee’s practical work: the federal threshold moved from $750,000 to $1,000,000 and the committee advised whether state-level alignment was appropriate.
Senator Marchman moved to recommend the nominees to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation. With no objection from the committee, the nominees were placed on the consent calendar, meaning their confirmations are expected to proceed to the full Senate without separate debate.
The committee adjourned its confirmation business and moved on to its single bill of the day.
