The Kane County Board on Feb. 10 deferred action on a zoning petition filed by Tri-County Solar (petition 4676 / TMP-26097), returning the matter to the full board in March at the petitioner’s request.
Board members and public commenters noted the property sits on a closed, capped landfill and said county staff and the petitioner were still working on agreements with the site’s waste-management contractor. Chuck Ingersoll, president of the Riverbend Community Group, asked whether the project would lower residents’ electricity bills, where generated power would flow, the panels’ country of manufacture, the availability of federal or state subsidies and how decommissioning and panel disposal would be handled on a capped landfill.
Committee chair Williams said the petitioner asked to continue the matter for a month so those outstanding items could be addressed; the board agreed to present the petition to the full board in March for further consideration.
What’s next: The petitioner is expected to appear before the full board in March with updates on agreements with waste-management and responses to technical questions about site use and benefits to the community.
