Councilwoman Heather Hutt introduced the Legends of Basketball partnership that will bring community clinics, a health fair and direct investments to CD10 ahead of All-Star weekend; organizers pledged grants and in-kind marketing support for local schools and businesses.
Council member Heather Hutt (CD10) introduced members of the Legends of Basketball and outlined a weekend of community events aimed at delivering neighborhood benefits during All-Star weekend.
Hutt said the partnership will deliver 70,000 in direct investment to nonprofits and small businesses in CD10, including a Dollar General commitment of $25,000 to Cienega Elementary School, $60,000 in advertising and marketing support from Spectrum, $15,000 in marketing for four local businesses and two laptops for a district digital tech lab. Antonio Davis, president of the Legends of Basketball, and board chair Charles Chu Smith addressed the council and reiterated the group's intention to be "boots on the ground" and to ensure benefits remain in the community after the weekend.
The presentation also announced a free basketball clinic for more than 200 local children, a community health and resource fair with 25+ vendors providing screenings, and neighborhood cleanups beginning at the Obama Sports Complex. Council members from across the dais offered praise and applause.
