Syosset Superintendent Outlines Summer Construction Timelines, Security Upgrades

Work already underway includes demolition of the existing high school vestibule and construction of a larger vestibule to establish a single point of entry so security personnel can be concentrated and visitors routed through a single monitored entrance. Dr. Rogers said the vestibule will proceed in two stages to avoid closing the school’s entrance and estimated about five months for that project.
On security generally, Dr. Rogers cited that consultant Don Flynn of Covert Investigations reported he knew of no other district that had implemented more of the recommended security measures; the superintendent said the district will brief the board again in September with updated security work details.
The board did not take formal votes on the construction updates during the report; several items related to facilities proceeded later on the consent agenda as contract awards, bids and authorizations.
