Councillor Doug Rose described the Easy Street work as “the existential project in the entire CRP” and proposed asking Hillary Hedges, the committee’s planning representative, to put the ferry/terminal alternative on the agenda of the NP and EDC for a formal discussion. Instead the committee agreed on a pragmatic next step: staff-led outreach and an agenda item for March 10 that would invite Town planning staff and the transportation coordinator.
Joanna Roach suggested starting by inviting Leslie Snell (planning staff) to CRAC so the department can explain how it would be involved; Hill agreed and recommended also inviting Mike Burns, the transportation coordinator. Peter, the committee chair, and other members favored a staff-to-staff meeting or having Leslie and Mike attend the CRAC meeting as a precursor to taking the subject to NP and EDC. The committee asked staff to confirm availability and place the topic on the March 10 agenda if the invitees can attend.
Members also urged that staff prepare clear briefing materials and comparative feasibility analysis before elevating relocation or alternate-terminal concepts to regional planning bodies. Matt Fee and others argued the question of moving the Steamship Authority is a planning-level feasibility issue that would require consultants and cost estimates.
