Weston trustees approve minor comprehensive plan amendments amid debate over timing and costs

The Village of Weston board opened a public hearing and approved proposed amendments to the comprehensive plan that insert recently adopted corridor-plan work into the Conditions and Issues volume and add a Parks & Recreation chapter to Volume 2. Staff told trustees the changes keep the future land use map consistent with corridor plans and are a limited update intended to bridge to the full 10‑year rewrite scheduled for 2025–2026.
Trustees pressed staff on why the amendment was brought forward close to the statutory 10‑year milestone and asked about costs. Staff estimated work-to-date as under $10,000 and said much of the material will be rolled into the broader, funded rewrite next year; another staff presentation explained that doing the minor amendment now reduces duplication and the effort needed for the full update.
After discussion the board moved and seconded the ordinance to adopt the amendments. The minutes record a motion and subsequent roll-call vote; the planning commission recommendation and the ordinance were approved by the board during the meeting.
The board also discussed work orders and funding for phase 1 of the comprehensive plan conditions and issues volume (community survey and mapping). Staff noted a work-order not-to-exceed amount had been set and clarified how mapping costs and survey costs are accounted for; trustees asked staff to ensure budget numbers match the expected in-house mapping costs.
