Weston approves park grants and Kennedy Park contracts, including marketing agreement

The Village of Weston Board approved several park-related items Wednesday, including accepting a Knowles-Nelson stewardship (outdoor recreation aids) grant for improvements at Yellow Banks Park, authorizing architectural and structural services for Kennedy Park renovations, and approving a marketing contract for Kennedy Park work.
Staff told trustees the Yellow Banks project estimate was about $96,000 with donated surveying reducing some costs; under the grant terms the village’s required contribution would be about $48,000. Trustees discussed potential changes recommended by the parks commission — including curb adjustments, driveway widening and parking-lot lighting — and the possibility of covering overruns with parkland or tourism funds.
On Kennedy Park, trustees authorized proceeding with architectural services and asked staff and the architect to explicitly include features trustees had identified (such as baby changing stations, specific lock hardware and heater/electrical details) to avoid construction delays. The board also approved a marketing contract with GoFull Nelson Marketing; staff said the Friends of Kennedy Park are listed as the client in the proposal while the village would pay the invoice from remaining marketing-designated funds (previously identified as ARPA-designated funds that have since been repurposed).
Trustees also approved naming rights for Kennedy Park features: Field Number 4 will be named the Karen and Gary Raychak Memorial Field and the first light pole on Field Number 5 will be named in honor of Braden Bone. Staff said bid documents for the first two baseball-field packages at Kennedy Park will go live the day after the meeting, with bid openings scheduled for May 7.
The approvals move the Kennedy Park renovation toward final design and procurement while clarifying funding responsibilities and the items contractors must provide under contract.
