The Weston Plan Commission on Aug. 12 recommended that the Board hire a consultant to lead a two-year comprehensive-plan update, with staff and commissioners planning condition-and-issue research in 2025 and visioning and implementation outreach in 2026.
Staff noted the village’s last comprehensive plan adoption was in 2016 and that many changes — including new development and shifting project priorities — justify a full update. The proposed structure divides the effort into a first year focused on data, conditions and issues and a second year on visioning, public participation and final implementation chapters. Commissioners discussed outreach strategies including surveys, park-based pop-up meetings and neighborhood sessions to reach a broader cross-section of residents than past efforts.
Commissioner Hoffman moved to recommend that the Board hire Andy Rockhurst (or a similar consultant familiar with local context) for the two-year process and to coordinate with the town where joint planning is appropriate; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff will carry the recommendation to the Board for contract authorization and budget allocation.
