Committee approves 4-hour parking near UW–Oshkosh Newman Center to support coaches and visitors

The Oshkosh City Transportation Committee voted unanimously to change posted parking time from 30 minutes to four hours for a small cluster of stalls on Irving Avenue near the former Newman Center to accommodate UW–Oshkosh coaches, staff and visitors.
Mason Robinson, who identified himself as associated with the program moving into the building, said staff and visiting recruits use the stalls during recruiting and operations. “We moved into this building about a month or two ago... we have 10 to 15 coaches given on a day,” Robinson said, adding the longer time limit would make recruiting visits easier for visiting families.
Committee members said those stalls are often empty and the change makes sense operationally; staff cautioned they cannot reserve right‑of‑way spaces for a single organization but can manage posted time limits. A motion to change the time limit passed on a unanimous roll call.
The change updates time limits for public right‑of‑way stalls only; staff noted parking remains shared with students, faculty and other users. The committee did not discuss a fee change or reserving spaces, and directed general inquiries about campus parking to community development or parking staff.
