Doña Ana County commissioners approved amendments to the county manager’s employment agreement Feb. 10, extending the manager’s term and adding compensation adjustments.
Bond counsel outlined contract revisions that change the initial term language to a five-year term, add a 90‑day renegotiation window before term end and include a liquidated renewal clause if re-negotiations do not conclude. During discussion the board moved two amendments: a $600 per month car allowance and a 4% salary increase from the current year salary. Both amendments were adopted by roll call and the amended agreement was approved.
County and bond counsel said other termination provisions in the agreement remain unchanged. Commissioners noted the amendments will provide continuity for county leadership and thanked the manager and staff for their work.
Outcome: the board approved the amended manager employment agreement as presented and amended at the meeting.
