District presents rezoning plan for Carver and Dalreda; final approval expected in March

Montgomery Public Schools staff presented proposed boundary changes for Carver and Dalreda elementary attendance zones during the Feb. 10 board meeting and said final approval will be requested at the board’s March meeting.

The district’s presentation recommended directing Carver zone students who do not opt into magnet programming to South Lawn Elementary. District staff told trustees that the Carver transition plan was approved in September 2025 and that transportation and capacity reviews support the recommended move for next school year. "If it hasn't opted in for magnet students, this would impact them," a staff presenter said when asked about Carver enrollment.

For Dalreda, staff proposed moving most of the current attendance zone to Morning View with two parcel exceptions: one parcel with direct access to Northeastern Boulevard and another south of Atlanta Highway (identified in the presentation as affecting roughly 70 and 35 students, respectively). Staff said those exceptions were made after geography and proximity analyses and emphasized that current students in affected zones would be grandfathered; future enrollments and magnet applications would follow the new boundaries.

Board members asked how parents would be notified and whether grandfathering applied; staff said communications will follow approval and noted deadlines tied to magnet application windows (Carver families were given a grandfathering window until Sept. 30; Dalreda until Sept. 2026). No vote was taken; staff described the item as informational and said a request for approval will be on the March agenda.
