Bailey Braxton, a senior at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, said the district would centrally coordinate speakers, clinicians and materials and stagger school days over a one‑ to two‑week window so each high school and identified middle schools could participate without overburdening staff. Justin Jenkins, representing Prester Gillette High School, described safety plans: licensed counselors on site, designated quiet spaces, clear opt‑out options and protocols for immediate clinical support.
Administrators and trustees praised the students’ planning and asked how the district would ensure consistent execution across different school contexts. The students said the district would partner with each school and provide most logistics centrally, while allowing each school to tailor the assembly and workshops to local needs. Superintendent Doctor Byrd told the council: "We heard you, we value you, and we're gonna act on what you all shared on tonight."
The board did not take a vote; students said the proposal will be considered further by district staff for implementation and scheduling.
