At the start of the Feb. 10 meeting, Mayor Carol Latimer and Councilwoman Marissa Allen presented a proclamation designating February 2026 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. The council invited representatives from Love Is Respect, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the Air Force integrated‑resilience office, Thriving Hearts Crisis Center and local school counselors to the dais to be recognized.
Council and members of the community also used the meeting to honor Peggy Simmick, the city secretary, on the occasion of her retirement. Multiple speakers praised Simmick for years of service to the city and the youth advisory council, including a youth‑council tribute that praised her role as a mentor and advocate for young people.
Council noted upcoming community events, including a State of the City luncheon and a veteran‑owned business expo, and directed staff to place a youth‑council presentation and related subcommittee requests on the Feb. 24 or March agenda for continued discussion.
Ending: Council scheduled follow‑up items (youth council presentation, trend‑analysis workshop) for the Feb. 24 meeting and thanked visiting advocates for their work.
