District presents midyear LCAP: TK growth, CTE investments and improved behavior metrics

Vanessa Gailey, presenting the midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), told the board the report summarizes implementation, midyear outcomes and expenditures through Dec. 31 and will be posted on the district's website.

Gailey highlighted several district investments and outcomes: expansion of transitional kindergarten (TK) with enrollment increasing from roughly 180 students five years ago to about 685 this year ("added over 500 TK students"), strengthened early-literacy work and targeted professional development for core content areas. She said the district has invested more than $1,000,000 in college and career readiness and expanded career technical education pathways.

On outcome measures, Gailey said most district indicators were stable or improving: suspension rates are down, dropout rates have fallen and graduation rates have risen in most groups. Chronic absenteeism remains a concern but has improved from earlier levels and remains the district's yellow indicator on the California School Dashboard. Gailey also noted a change in assessment tools: the district stopped using Acadience and began reporting baseline results using DIBBLES, which will require new baselines and make some year-to-year comparisons noncomparable.

Trustees asked staff about communications to parents about DIBBLES results and other technical codes. District staff said they would review and improve parent-facing materials and offer trainings to clarify what parents will receive.

Gailey said the full midyear LCAP (about 59 pages) will be posted on the district LCAP page starting the next day.

The presentation provided context for budget adjustments and for ongoing strategic-plan work that will inform future LCAP cycles.
