JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The Jefferson Parish Legal Services Evaluation Committee convened Nov. 10, 2025, held an executive session under La. R.S. 42:17 and approved a recommendation to retain Peter Buck as counsel in the matter captioned Cynthia Lee Shang v. Steven Orkus Jr., 24th JDC No. 870-254, Division H.
The meeting began at 10:07 a.m. in the Joseph Sieni Building, 1221 Elmwood Park Boulevard, in the IT PAO Conference Room. The chair called the roll and confirmed a quorum after Councilman Logeberg, Councilwoman Bohannon and Councilman Banana all answered "Here." Brad Rishard and Rachel Haring from the Parish Attorney's Office were identified as present.
The chair opened the floor for comments; none were offered, and the chair stated there were no public commenters for item no. 1. The committee then announced it would enter an executive session "pursuant to La. R.S. 42:17" to discuss the selection of counsel in the cited litigation.
After returning from executive session, a member moved to select Peter Buck as counsel for the parish in the Shang v. Orkus Jr. matter, and the motion was seconded. The chair called for a vote; members responded "Aye," and the chair stated there were no objections and that the motion carried.
Committee business concluded with the chair saying no future meeting was scheduled and that staff would circulate possible dates as needed. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded, and the chair adjourned the meeting.
Procedural notes: the committee took no public comment during this meeting, and the selection of counsel was handled in executive session as authorized by La. R.S. 42:17.
