Oakland County’s Finance Committee approved a single-source exception to the county’s purchasing policy to permit Westshore Services (and related vendors) to continue repair and maintenance work on the county’s emergency siren system.
The county’s chief procurement official said Westshore is the contracted supplier for the siren technology the state directs counties to use and is the only authorized vendor to perform repairs for that system. Commissioners asked how often sirens and tests are run; procurement and emergency management staff said county devices are tested on a set schedule, often "once a month, on a Saturday for, like, 3 minutes." A commissioner requested emergency management follow up to ensure widespread testing and alert notifications; procurement staff agreed to coordinate that outreach.
The committee advanced the procurement exception. Commissioners also noted minor clerical issues in the packet (duplicate attachments) that staff said would be corrected.
