Finance committee approves $10,000 sponsorship for 42 Strong peer-mentorship program

Oakland County’s Finance Committee voted to sponsor 42 Strong with a one-time $10,000 contribution to support peer-to-peer mentorship in Oxford-area schools.
Commissioner Spitz introduced the request, saying the group is "being run by 42 Strong, which is the father of one of the victims from the incident at Oxford High School," and described programming that pairs older students with younger peers for mentorship, self-awareness and out-of-school activities. Spitz said the total program cost is "roughly 80 to $100,000" and described the county contribution as a modest one-time investment to keep the program running.
Commissioner Powell and other members voiced support, including personal references to students helped by similar services. Staff confirmed the sponsorship is a one-time contribution; the committee approved the motion.
