Daniel Johnston, highway engineer, said the Bridge 98 change order (Needham Township, 700 East near Emeryville) represents roughly 5.8% of the original construction contract; the county will pay the amount and later seek reimbursement from the design consultant. The board approved the change order by voice vote.
Highway supervisor Luke Masten presented recommended awards for 2026 materials: concrete to Shelby Materials, crushed aggregate to Ward Stone, hot‑mix asphalt to Milestone Contractors (plants 11 and 32), and liquid asphalt to Asphalt Materials. The board moved and approved the awards; contracts were forwarded to suppliers for execution.
Masten warned that the county’s main treated‑salt supplier has had distribution issues in Central Indiana and that early‑season demand has delayed deliveries. He said the county’s new storage facility allows earlier ordering and that staff will consider pre‑ordering to avoid shortages; commissioners praised highway crews for their response during recent storms.
