Johnson County opens sealed bids for Dunn Arena reroofing, refers review to staff

Johnson County commissioners opened sealed bids Feb. 9 for a reroofing project at Dunn Arena and voted to forward the proposals to staff for a recommendation at the board’s next meeting.
County staff read base bids and alternates from six firms. The lowest base bids reported were Danco Roofing Services at $147,500 and JMG Ventures at $149,950; other base bids included Quality Roofing Services ($153,800), Roof Links ($186,227), SPG Roofing ($191,900), and Foster Contracting ($203,000). Some bidders included alternates and allowances, such as Foster’s $30,000 alternate and $15,000 allowance and SPG’s alternate of $19,100.
A commissioner moved to turn the sealed bids over to Wes for review and a recommendation; another commissioner seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote. The board did not award the contract at the meeting and will consider staff recommendations at a future session.
The action preserves procurement competition while allowing county staff to verify bid completeness, vet alternates, and check references before presenting an award recommendation.
