Urbana Park District moves to executive session and releases select executive minutes

The Urbana Park District Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 13 to adjourn into executive session under Section 2(c)(21) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act for the semiannual review of executive session minutes and approved the release of specified minutes and the destruction of certain recordings.

At the start of the meeting the presiding officer moved that the board adjourn to executive session for the statutory semiannual review; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. A board member then moved "that we release all or part of the executive session minutes," identifying two sets of minutes to be made available: 07/08/2025 and 10/07/2025, and asking that certain recordings be destroyed (several recording dates in 2023–2024 were read into the record). The motion was seconded and affirmed by the board.

Board members did not discuss substantive content of the minutes during the public portion of the meeting; the action was limited to the determinations required by the Open Meetings Act about confidentiality, public inspection, and the disposition of older recordings. The presiding officer said the board had "conducted the required semiannual review of the unreleased minutes" and concluded that confidentiality largely remains necessary except for the items identified for release.

Next procedural steps noted in the meeting record were to execute the release and to proceed to the executive session as permitted by law.
