Fire Commission approves $100,000 donation of video laryngoscopes from Arlet Green Trust

The San Francisco Fire Commission voted on Jan. 28, 2026 to accept approximately $100,000 in donated EMS equipment from the Arlet Green Trust and to forward a recommending resolution to the Board of Supervisors.

Deputy Director Mark Corso told the commission the donation would expand the department’s inventory of video laryngoscopes so that units could be deployed across ambulances. "We were approached by a retired member James Green," Corso said, and the equipment would expand the scope of laryngoscope use department‑wide.

James Green, speaking as trustee for the Arlet Green Trust, recounted the project’s origins: the initiative to establish video laryngoscopy began in 2018, advanced through department and ethics reviews, stalled during the COVID‑19 pandemic, and was reinvigorated in 2025. "He got it going, got it started, got it through the ethics commission and a number of other commissions," Green said, describing the effort to equip rescue captains and ambulance crews.

Commissioners thanked the trustee and department staff for pursuing the project. A motion to accept the gift was made and seconded; the commission recorded aye votes and the motion passed by voice vote.

Procedural note: the staff presentation asked the commission to recommend that the Board of Supervisors authorize acceptance of the donation (the agenda listed the item as Resolution 2026‑61 for Board consideration). The commission’s approval forwards that recommendation; the Board of Supervisors will consider final acceptance and any required contracting or acceptance steps.

The commission did not discuss conditions on the acceptance and no amendments to the staff recommendation were recorded during the meeting.
