Monterey County Works to host February job fairs and industry recruitments

Monterey County Works is hosting a series of free job fairs and specialized recruitments throughout February to connect local job seekers with employers, Laura Kershner, business services specialist with the Monterey County Workforce Development Board, said Wednesday.

Kershner said the transportation recruitment scheduled for that day had three confirmed employers with a fourth on the way from Morgan Hill. She described specialized recruitments as smaller and more narrowly focused (typically two to four employers) and said the multiple‑employer job fairs generally list roughly 8–10 employers and run on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Upcoming events Kershner named included a health‑industry recruitment on Feb. 25 and a multiple‑employer job fair in Greenfield on April 16 (4–6:30 p.m.) at Greenfield City Council Chambers. She urged employers to register early for limited space and said job seekers can learn more and view employer lists at montereycountyworks.com.

Advice for job seekers: Kershner recommended business attire or business casual, bringing a resume, researching employers on the website ahead of time and treating the fair as an active recruiting opportunity. She said in‑person interaction helps candidates develop rapport with recruiters and can be advantageous compared with submitting applications online.

Kershner also noted the county alternates specialized recruitments and multiple‑employer fairs week to week and said the events serve workers across industries, including transportation, health care, hospitality, finance, insurance and real estate.
