Brighton Central School District board approves routine business, accepts community gifts and honors staff

Brighton, N.Y. — The Brighton Central School District Board of Education on Feb. 10 handled routine business, accepted several community gifts and recognized staff through its Brighton Believer awards.
The board moved and approved the meeting agenda and the Jan. 27 minutes by voice vote. It also approved three financial items listed for the period ending Dec. 30, 2025 (treasurer's report; financial summary; records retention and corrective action plan) after a brief presentation by the administration.
The board noted the student representative was absent and provided updates on district operations, including the Rochester Area School Partnership (RASP) health-care consortium meeting in March and construction work at the high school, including an elevator serving the fourth floor.
First-read policies announced for future consideration were Policy 3210 (community relations/visitors and schools), Policy 5686 (non-instructional business operations/maximum temperature for school buildings and indoor facilities), and Policy 6550 (personnel leaves/absences). The board approved these as first reads; they will return for second reading at a later meeting.
Under the consent agenda the board approved personnel recommendations for special education and preschool special education and granted field-trip approvals for the Key Club (district leadership training in Albany) and the Brighton High School choir trip to Disney World in Orlando in March.
The board also read and accepted several gifts from the Brighton Education Fund and others: $1,500 to Andrew Conroy at Brighton High School for Red Cross CPR and AED training for 30 students; $1,225 to Katie Neely at BHS for a Raku firing demonstration to be held on-site; $749 to Howard Ennis at BHS for archival materials; $807 to Chris Dozer/TCMS for three double-reed toolkits and training; $385.48 for math materials at Frez; $347 to Mark Henretta at Council Rock for a field trip to RIT—s National Institute for the Deaf; and $2,600 to central office for 20 sessions of CUED speech language consulting.
The board thanked staff behind the scenes and adjourned after approving the consent agenda by voice vote.
Context: The meeting combined ceremonial recognition (Brighton Believer awards) with standard governance items during budget season. The board noted further discussion on budget and facilities (including the turf project) is forthcoming.
