Board hears SAU‑wide work on AI policy; PD planned for March

Speaker 1 asked the board to begin district discussions about how to integrate artificial intelligence into K–5 instruction, classroom guidance for students and teachers, and communications with parents. "Very curious about the integration of AI, what we're doing with our kids, policy guidelines, and what that looks like for us in a K–5 setting," Speaker 1 said.
Speaker 3 and Speaker 4 told the board an SAU‑level AI committee is drafting a policy that will come to the policy committee this spring and that the SAU has planned professional development for March 10 and additional sessions at the summer institute to support staff at different experience levels. Speaker 4 said the district first polled staff to assess comfort and readiness and that training will be tiered from beginners to more experienced users.
Board members emphasized that before selecting tools the district should build shared values, ethics conversations and staff comfort with classroom adoption. Staff were instructed to continue coordination with the SAU committee and bring a draft policy to the policy committee later this spring.
