The Ascension Parish Board of Adjustments on Feb. 11 granted a height variance (PZ385926) that will allow a raised house with a crawlspace greater than 30 inches in the Bogaz River Estates subdivision.
Applicants Tim Landry and Stephen Crow said the home design requires a raised foundation to meet parish guidance for flood‑resilient construction. Board members discussed fire‑department capacity to fight fires at that elevation and whether hydrants or water‑tanking would be sufficient; the chair reported a conversation with James LeBlanc in which the fire department said it was not opposed but noted water delivery challenges. “They said that they could have trouble getting water up that high… They said it's possible, but there's no city water there,” the chair reported.
The board also noted the raised attic/storage area would be primarily for aesthetics and limited storage and not for major mechanical systems. With those considerations, a motion to accept the variance was made and the board approved it.
The approval allows the applicants to proceed toward permitting; staff will coordinate any fire‑safety or hydrant requirements during the permitting review.
