Board denies request to place second mobile home on Lot 1 for family member

The Ascension Parish Board of Adjustments voted Feb. 11 to deny a variance request (PZ3855.26) that would have permitted a second mobile home on Lot 1 to house an extended‑family member.
Applicant Courtney Burke told the board she intended to place her mother on the lot and that a cousin currently lives on the property. “We have a cousin that laid on that lives on a lot, and we're trying to put my mama on there also,” Burke said when describing household plans.
Staff and board members explained the requested relief depends on family‑member status for density exceptions and noted the parcel must meet setback and density requirements. Board members repeatedly stressed the intent of the rules favors immediate family exceptions and raised concerns about allowing a non‑immediate relative to qualify.
After deliberation Jake moved to deny the variance; Eddie seconded the motion and the board denied the request. No public commenters were registered during the hearing.
The denial means the applicant must either modify the proposal to meet density/family‑member criteria or pursue other options consistent with parish zoning and permitting rules before placing additional dwellings on the lot.
