Redmond council agrees to place Initiative 2066 on Oct. 15 agenda for public comment and possible resolution

Forsyth said the request stemmed from community conversations and urged quick action so the council could hear public input before ballots are widely distributed. "This was a direct ask from community," Forsyth said.
Councilmembers discussed the calendar and fairness. Several members noted ballots are mailed around Oct. 18 for many voters and emphasized the need to provide balanced notice and equal opportunity for opposing views during the dedicated comment period. Council President Kritzker said the item would not be labeled a statutory 'hearing' (which carries specific notice requirements) but would include a separate public‑comment period dedicated to the initiative item and follow applicable rules for allowing roughly equal time for opposing views.
After discussion, council members showed majority support (thumbs) to add the item to the Oct. 15 agenda. Staff said city communications would notify the public of the upcoming item and planned public comment opportunity.
What’s next: the Oct. 15 business meeting will include a dedicated public‑comment period on Initiative 2066 and may include a council resolution declaring the city’s official position; staff will coordinate outreach and note procedural fairness in advance of the meeting.
